The "Stavros Niarchos" Mobile Medical Units in Agios Nikolaos

The destination of the KIM was Agios Nikolaos of Western Mani from 02.03.19 to 02.05.19 offering free medical care to the residents of Agios Nikolaos and the surrounding areas. The account of the KIM visit in numbers was 910 appointments and 533 examined. In a total of 546 examinations, 129 Ultrasounds, 77 Mammograms were performed. 50 Bone Density Measurements, 41 X-rays, 79 Electrocardiograms and heart ultrasounds and 53 Pap tests.

The KIM activity was enriched with the speeches: "Exercise is Medicine", "Knowing the Mediterranean Diet", "Learning Difficulties", "I decide not to Smoke" as well as the First Aid course. In the context of prevention, the vaccination coverage of the population was recorded, the possibility of nutritional assessment-lipometry was given and a small surgery for the removal of moles, cysts and lipomas was developed. In addition to the ophthalmological examination, the children underwent an intraoral examination and the possible existence of learning difficulties as well as developmental and mental disorders was investigated. 

In parallel with the KIM, Sports Excellence with the program "Have fun working out and decide what you like", designed by the Barcelona Football Academy who offered it to the Foundation and with a 9-member team of physical education teachers and nutritionists visited the Stoupa and Kampos Primary Schools and performed sports activities and assessments on a total of 250 children. The nutritionists also evaluated and intervened on each child individually, while the children as a whole also underwent an ophthalmological examination.

The equipment of KIM is the best and most modern and the mammograms are performed using a digital 3D mammogram. The program is an initiative of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and is implemented with an exclusive donation of the Foundation, by the AMKE "Regeneration & Progress", in collaboration with the A' Orthopedic Clinic EKPA and the Anonymous Society of Health Units (AEMY).
